The focus of my work is painting in and around Annapolis, Maryland. My favorite paintings are done en plein air (in the fresh air). It is a challenging way to paint requiring immediacy and spontaneity to deal with the elements and the rapidly changing light, but being in direct contact with nature adds an extra dimension to painting and it can be exhilarating, particularly when I can get to the essence of what I see in a short time.  My "painterly" approach achieves recognizable form while at the same time the paint itself is celebrated and brush strokes are not only visible but intrinsic to the success of the piece.

Landscapes dominate my work but I also enjoy painting animals, still-lifes and portraits. Today I balance my creativity between painting and graphic design with each playing its own unique role to enrich my world.
